Important Facts You Should Know About Energy Star Certification

Important Facts You Should Know About Energy Star Certification

Energy Star ratings are meant to tell consumers how efficient their appliances are. They can be extremely helpful!

Energy Star certification lets you know that the appliance you’ve chosen will help you save money and energy. This program has been around since 1992, and it has helped families and businesses save 4 trillion kilowatt-hours.

Across the Program

Did you know that more than 90% of American households recognize the Energy Star label? Eight hundred utilities, state and local governments, and nonprofits use Energy Star as part of their energy efficiency programs. This reaches approximately 95% of households in every state. Across the country, utilities invested $8 billion in energy efficiency programs in 2018 – just think how much higher that number has climbed in two years!

Products

Keeping energy costs down helps families across the country. Your household could save about $575 on your energy bills – great news for the summer when you need to run your AC more often! Three-fourths of households that purchased an Energy Star certified product mentioned that the label had a huge influence on their purchasing decisions to buy one. Eighty percent of purchasers would recommend Energy Star and Energy Star related products to a friend or family member.

For Commercial Buildings

Businesses and organizations need plenty of power to keep them running. In 2018, 190 billion kilowatt-hours were saved, along with $12 billion saved in energy costs. Greenhouse gas emissions were also dramatically decreased – by 140 million metric tons!

For Residential Buildings

In 2018, Energy Star helped homeowners save around 3 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. Wow! Energy costs also went down by $400 million, and 4 million metric tons of greenhouse gases were reduced. Did you know that 2 million Energy Star certified homes and apartments have been built? One hundred thousand of these buildings were constructed in 2019! This makes such a difference because Energy Star certified homes and apartments are 10% more energy efficient!
