Conserving Electricity in Your Home

Conserving Electricity in Your Home

With so many electronics in our lives nowadays, the demand for more power is higher than ever.

In recent years, everyone is becoming more and more concerned with the environment and conserving energy. With so many electronics in our lives nowadays, the demand for more power is higher than ever. So with everything needing to be “plugged in” how do you save energy? Since Earth Day is this Sunday, we’ve put together a couple of things that you can do to conserve energy in your home!

Unplug Unused Electronics

When something is plugged in, it is using energy. Whether something is powered on or not, when a device is plugged into the wall it’s using energy. To conserve some of that wasted energy, unplug things when you’re not using them. When your cell phone is done charging, unplug the charger. Unplug everything but the fridge and freezer if you’re going to be away from your home for an extended period of time.

Wash Dishes by Hand

Having a dishwasher is a huge help in your home. It saves tons of time and just makes your life easier. However, it is not actually a necessity. That super-convenient device actually uses quite a bit of energy! You can conserve energy and water by filling your sink with hot, soapy water once, and then wash the dishes that way. If you’d rather not soak your hands in hot water for an extended period of time, it’s easy enough to grab an inexpensive pair of rubber gloves that will protect your skin.

Upgrade to Energy Efficient Lighting

Last, but certainly not least, is changing your lighting. Newer types of bulbs are now available that provide the same or more light and use a fraction of the energy. One of the most efficient types of lighting you can choose is LED. You can purchase an LED bulb that provides as much light as a 60W incandescent bulb but uses 10W or less of energy. Upgrading to energy efficient lighting inside and outside of your home can conserve lots of energy.
