Is your generator calling?

TriStar Electric specializes in generator maintenance and repair. We’re ready to bring our professional services to your home, whether your generator needs to be fixed or simply checked. While TriStar is only a call away, there are a few measures you can take as a homeowner to ensure that your unit is running as efficiently as possible. As you continue with your holiday plans, keep an eye out for these common generator errors.

Common Error Codes

Be on the lookout for these common error codes that occur on your machine. Check your generator at least once a week to ensure that your machine is operating correctly.

Low Oil: Add oil (Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic) slowly until dipstick reads close to full. Do not overfill.

OVERCRANK: If running on propane make sure you have at least 30% in tank, perform computer reset.

OVER SPEED – Perform computer reset.

UNDER SPEED – Perform computer reset.

UNDER VOLTAGEPerform computer reset.

Red and Yellow Lights

If you’re receiving a yellow light, don’t be alarmed. The yellow lights are friendly reminders from your machine to periodically take a look at the generator. You can make this go away by switching the machine off, hitting enter twice (slowly), and then switching the machine back to “auto”. However, if you see a red light please give us a call immediately. A TriStar professional will to your home to check on your unit before an outage occurs.

Check Your Generator Before a Big Storm

Before the next big storm, check your generator. Make sure your green status indicator light in/on the generator is on or the display in the generator says ready to run. Make sure you have extra oil on hand (Mobil 1 brand 5W30)

Sign Up For The Generator Maintenance Contract

Signing up for the Generator Maintenance Contract means that your generator will be serviced at least twice a year by a TriStar Electric technician. He or she will come to your home, equipped with a checklist that details each of the components to inspect. The items checked vary depending on if it’s the yearly or 6-month check-up. Our technicians are the most experienced and knowledgeable professionals in the field and you can rest easy knowing that the job is being done correctly.
