A Few Reasons Why Your Lights Are Flickering

A Few Reasons Why Your Lights Are Flickering

Why are the lights flickering?

Power outages might be sweeping through your neighborhood. Most of the time, this is probably due to some natural event sweeping through your neck of the woods – high winds or driving rains, perhaps. Are you curious about why your lights keep flickering when they shouldn’t be? Read on to find out more!

The Light Switches Need to Be Replaced

At first, faulty light switches just seem to be annoying problems that you can deal with. The problem is that this assumption is incorrect. You’ve got to replace faulty light switches. If you don’t, then you run the risk of an electrical fire devastating your home and harming your family. Faulty light switches tend to overheat, which is something that they shouldn’t do. Once you have found a wonky light switch, leave it alone. Don’t let anyone touch it or play with it. Instead, you will need to call a professional, licensed electrician to come and inspect it for you.

Electrical System is Aging

It’s also possible that the wiring and electrical systems in your home are getting old and worn out. Appliances around your home and electronic devices can both contribute to this issue, even if you don’t think that they are the source of the problem. Keep an eye on everything, especially the devices you’ve had for decades. The electrical system will occasionally experience minor power surges, which don’t sound scary, but they actually are. When your lights start flickering unexpectedly, then it is a warning sign that something has gone wrong and you’ll need for the grid to be updated.

Your LED Lights Need Brand New Dimmers

Let’s say that your home relies on LED lights connected to dimmer switches. Eventually, the switches will need to be replaced. You shouldn’t worry though, all this means is that you need new dimmers. LED bulbs are unusual in that they don’t use traditional filaments as other lights do. Whenever the circuit is completed or broken, that is when they go on and off. While the flickering can bother you, it’s not a sign of anything worse than that.
