Reasons to NOT Do Your Own Electrical Work

Reasons to NOT Do Your Own Electrical Work

No matter how industrious you are, unless you’re a licensed electrician, you should not ever try to do your own electrical work.

Many homeowners really enjoy the DIY trend, and we agree that it can be a great way to learn new things and save some money in the process. However, some people think that it is okay to do their own electrical work. This is a really bad idea for many reasons. No matter how industrious you are, unless you’re a licensed electrician, you should not ever try to do your own electrical work.

Make Sure All Permits are Obtained

Something most homeowners don’t know is that there are many electrical projects that require permits before the work can begin. Once permitted work is completed, it has to be inspected. If you did the work yourself and it fails inspection, you’re going to end up paying an electrician anyway. Why not save yourself the time, money, and frustration and just hire a professional?

Electricians are TRAINED to Do Electrical Work

Doctors are trained in medicine and patient care. Plumbers are trained to do plumbing work. Retail sales personnel are trained in customer service. Are you noticing a trend here? Electricians have specific training that needs to be completed in order to get their license. The electricians here at TriStar Electric have many years of experience, and we take pride in completing every job in a safe and timely manner.

Keep Yourself, and Your Home, Safe

Last, and most certainly not least: electrical work can be DANGEROUS. There are so many things that can go wrong with even the smallest projects and jeopardize your safety. At the very least, you could incur minor injuries. However, that is a best-case scenario. Mishaps during electrical work can actually result in death. Also, even if there are no injuries during the work, if something isn’t done properly you’re risking electrical fires that can destroy your home.
