Brighten Your Home with Recessed Lighting

Recessed lighting gives your home a welcoming glow.

Recessed lighting refers to the fixtures that are constructed into the ceilings or walls. It has little to no profile and serves as an effective ambient lighting for both residential and commercial use. Depending upon the light sources you choose, recessed lighting saves you money on electricity bills while providing efficient lighting to any room. TriStar Electric has been installing recessed lighting in homes for more than 20 years.

Picking Your Recessed Lighting

Trim Size

The trim is the visible part of the light. It should reflect your own personal style and unique preference as a homeowner. The trim comes in multiple sizes ranging from 3” to 6” in diameter. Larger trims are able to produce broader amounts of light, but smaller trims are less conspicuous and often seen as more sleek and modern. The choice is up to you. The size of your trim depends on lighting preferences and size of the room.

Trim Style

Determine the desired effect you’d like the lighting to have in your room. This will be important when understanding what style of trim you want to have.

Baffle Trim: Baffle trims are the most popular choice of trim and serve as a great choice for living rooms, dining rooms, dens, and bedrooms. Baffle trims help reduce glare and are typically offered in black or white. Black baffle trims reduce the amount of glare from the bulb; while white baffle trims help reduce the appearance of dark holes in the ceiling.

Reflector Trim: This type of trim is perfect for use in the kitchen, high ceilings, and commercial applications. They’re useful for maximizing the amount of light produced from the bulb.

Lensed Trim: The best choice for bathrooms, the lensed trim is perfect for protecting the bulb from water or moisture.

Wall Washed Trim: This type of trim is a combination of a directional reflector and a light “scoop” directing light toward the wall.
